Chauche served as the Lighting Designer for Encompass New Opera Theatre’s world premiere of ANNA CHRISTIE, music by Edward Thomas (Grammy nominated composer), libretto by Joseph Masteroff (Cabaret, She Loves Me), and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Eugene O’Neill. He works hand in glove with the set designers and costume designers, and in the case of ANNA CHRISTIE he incorporated various scenic projections into his lighting scheme. Since Encompass specializes in new music drama and contemporary opera, working with a lighting designer who has the expertise to create an atmosphere as well as visibility for singing is paramount, and Mr. Chauche is quite adept at this challenge. He carefully assesses the needs of the scenic atmosphere as well as the needs for singer visibility. He is sensitive and artistic in his approach to the use of light and the trajectory of the drama. Mr. Chauche also designed the lighting for the 2014 Encompass premiere of A Wake or a A Wedding.
